Having dealt with months of isolation during the pandemic, I was offered a trip to Miami and put trust in someone I considered a friend who had me ingest more than the amount of shrooms my body could handle. It put me over the edge to the point where I almost drowned in the Atlantic Ocean. In the moment when I felt like I was transcending into another realm, I was sent back to Earth and waves washed me up ashore. The duration of my visit was for two weeks but the impact left a memory of a lifetime. The ocean, the flora, and the camaraderie of the community I felt on the sacred land restored a sense of peace within me which led my heart back into painting and that of Pele, who I relate to in more ways than one when it comes to her story and her rage. Pele taught me how to breathe deeply, again.
