<image:caption>Ego Death Self portrait in the Atlantic Ocean, after overdosing on psilocybin  After Bernie Sanders withdrew from the 2020 elections when the establishment candidates of the Democratic Party coalized against him, like many people involved in the progressive movement, I felt a sense of loss and direction given that this was the second time around of facing disappointment and a harsh understanding of how deeply corrupted the system is in this country. Having dealt with months of isolation during the pandemic, I was offered a trip to Miami and put trust in someone I considered a friend who had me ingest more than the amount of shrooms my body could handle. It put me over the edge to the point where I almost drowned in the Atlantic Ocean. In the moment when I felt like I was transcending into another realm, I was sent back to Earth and waves washed me up ashore. I haven’t served my purpose yet, and I have come to believe my purpose lies in storytelling through my art. </image:caption>

There may have been a time when war served as a negative good by preventing the spread and growth of an evil force. If we assume that life is worth living, if we assume that mankind has the right to survive, then we must find an alternative to war.” - Martin Luther King Jr.</image:caption>

Her brother, Steven Lumer, a finance director on the Upper East Side, responded, “I couldn’t believe it, but I guess it was just a matter of time.” “Life is now a war zone, and as such, the number of people considered disposable has grown exponentially, and this includes low income whites, poor minorities, immigrants, the unemployed, the homeless, and a range of people who are viewed as a liability to capital and its endless predatory quest for power and profits.” - Henry Giroux, humanitarian educator</image:caption>

None of us can afford to be divided on issues like oil, coal, and clean water. It’s up to us to plan intelligently and build a new society where tokenization isn’t the norm and taking back our land is always a priority.” Shani Hillian Holistic Esthetician, Wellness Writer “Within the Black community, our ancestral and living ancestors hold a very powerful position. They unselfishly serve as the "lifeline" to our legacy and possess the knowledge and wisdom of a world we have not yet experienced. In many cases, they carry us through this life by teaching us the importance of our heritage, tradition, self-worth, and unity to ensure we never forget where we've come from.”</image:caption>

The duration of my visit was for two weeks but the impact left a memory of a lifetime. The ocean, the flora, and the camaraderie of the community I felt on the sacred land restored a sense of peace within me which led my heart back into painting and that of Pele, who I relate to in more ways than one when it comes to her story and her rage. Pele taught me how to breathe deeply, again.</image:caption>
